The municipality of San Ignacio is in celebration as it has been named the 5th Magical Town in Sinaloa.

Something that was inevitable has finally arrived, thanks to its beauty, history, gastronomy, and beaches. San Ignacio joins the prestigious list of Magical Towns in Mexico.

Currently, Sinaloa already boasts five Magical Towns, which are El Fuerte, Mocorito, Cosalá, Rosario, and the newest addition, San Ignacio.

After receiving 87 complete applications (meeting the requirements to be a Magical Town), the Mexican Tourism Secretary reports that, following a thorough review by the technical committee, 45 new Magical Towns have been selected for Mexico. That amounts to only 37% of the proposals.

San Ignacio is among the municipalities selected for this designation, immediately joining the other 4 Magical Towns in Sinaloa.

But what impressed or convinced the decision-makers? Here are some of the main activities that can be experienced in this new Magical Town.

Cuisine: Common dishes in this region include cazuela and cocido (both based on beef), colachi (sautéed zucchinis), seafood such as aguachile, grilled fish, and oysters in their shell, along with traditional sweets like capirotada, rice pudding, and jamoncillos.

Activities to engage in:

Las Labradas: This is an archaeological site abundant in petroglyphs along the Las Labradas beach. It features unique cliff formations, a geological marvel exclusive to Mexico.

Barras de Piaxtla: A beautiful spot known for its bay, perfect for a family day out where swimming and water sports can be enjoyed. The best surfing waves in the entire area are found here.

Jaguar Museum: Located in Acatitlán in the municipality of San Ignacio, this is the first museum dedicated to the jaguar, an emblematic species in Mexico. Visitors can explore comprehensive information about these astonishing felines.

The Christ of La Mesa: Located at the highest point of the municipality, it was inaugurated on June 4, 2004. Since that date, every year a celebration is held to commemorate it. Throughout the year, it receives hundreds of visitors, both locals from Sinaloa and from other states in the country.

You can enjoy these and many more activities when visiting the Magical Town of San Ignacio. If you wish to explore this beautiful place, we recommend staying at hotels in Mazatlán so that you can easily visit this destination and then return to continue enjoying your stay by the beach.
